  7.    "Shareware" is a concept where you have an opportunity to try a software
  8.    program before you  buy  it.   Shareware  is  comparable  to  commercial
  9.    software in quality, but not usually in  price.  Shareware  is  normally
  10.    much less expensive because the author has not spent the many thousands,
  11.    even millions,  of  dollars  on  advertising  that  commercial  software
  12.    companies do.  Thus, the overhead is much less and  your  cost  reflects
  13.    this. If you use a shareware program for a reasonable period of time you
  14.    are required to register it. Please honor the author's registration  fee
  15.    and register the programs you use.  Many shareware programs on  this  cd
  16.    required hundred's of hours to develop. Many of the programs you will be
  17.    using were written by authors who fully depend on the support of  honest
  18.    users to continue making software affordable.   Your  registration  does
  19.    count! ...not only to the author and his/her family, but also  when  you
  20.    register there are usually many benefits that become available  to  you.

  23.                             Cream of the Crop...

  25.    ...has included 6 programs that will make it easy to access  this  disk:

  28.    1.  CREAM.exe     This is a view and retrieval program that will  assist
  29.    you in viewing the files on this disk, along with their size, date,  and
  30.    description .  You can mark up to 50 files to copy at once from a single
  31.    area to a specific path on your hard drive.  When  you  are  viewing  an
  32.    area you can press the first letter of the name of the files you want to
  33.    view and jump to that position in the listing immediately. To  run  this
  34.    program, simply type  "Cream" and press enter.  Cream.exe is NOT for use
  35.    for any purpose outside this cd.  Do not place this program for download
  36.    on any bbs or even copy it from this cd.

  39.    If you run a Maximus, Remote Access, Quick BBS, or Spitfire BBS, one  of
  40.    the following programs will automatically set up this disk for your  bbs
  41.    file database structure in only a few minutes.  ALL  of  these  programs
  42.    will AUTOMATICALLY copy (and correctly format) the Files.bbs  from  this
  43.    cd to suit the structure of your  bbs  and  increment  the  file  names,
  44.    placing the "Files.<x>" into the directory you specify.   Please  backup
  45.    your file data base before you run any of these programs.  For an  extra
  46.    precaution, you can copy your file databases  to a  temporary  directory
  47.    and use your temporary directory to set up this disk. These programs are
  48.    NOT to be used outside the scope of this cd rom disk.  Do not place them
  49.    for download on any bbs.  They will not run from your hard drive.

  52.    2.  MX_Cream.exe  This is the program to set up Maximus  BBS.   Actually
  53.    it builds your "Filearea.ctl" control  file  then  you  can  run  FB  to
  54.    compile  the  changes.   It  is  important  that  your  Filearea.ctl  be
  55.    correctly formatted so that the last area  can  be  located  to  provide
  56.    accurate file naming when Files.bbs are reformatted and copied  to  your
  57.    fixed media path. "Area <X>" MUST begin on column #1 at  least  for  the
  58.    last record.

  60.    3. SF_Cream.exe   This is the program to set up Spitfire BBS.  You  will
  61.    need to know  the  path  to  your  Sffarea.dat  file  and  your  display
  62.    directory where "Sffiles.<x>"  will  be  placed,  before  you  run  this
  63.    program. If you would like to set up this cd without using  the  cd  rom
  64.    option in Spitfire, there is a copy of Sffiles.bbs  in  every  directory
  65.    in addition to the Files.bbs that most bbs's use.

  68.                  A special note about Quick BBS and Remote Access:
  69.  
  70.    The file database structures are  "FIXED"  at a  200  file  area  limit.
  71.    Every precaution has been taken to start with the correct record number,
  72.    but if you have blank records, for example if record #23 is described as
  73.    Printer Programs, and there is no description for record  #24  but  then
  74.    you use #25 for Programming Files, these records  following  the  record
  75.    with the empty description will be overwritten.   If you don't  have  an
  76.    empty record before #177 then you will be prompted with options  because
  77.    this cd has 24 file areas and 177 + 24 will exceed the 200  fixed  limit
  78.    of the file  database  structure.    The  search  for  an  empty  record
  79.    begins with area #20 because it is assumed that you will always  need  a
  80.    few file areas at the beginning to manage uploads  from  users  to  your
  81.    hard disk.

  83.    4. QB_Cream.exe   This is the program to set up  Quick  BBS.   You  will
  84.    need to know the path to your Filecfg.dat  and  your  "File  list"  path
  85.    directory before you run this program.

  87.    5. RA_Cream.exe   This is the program to set up Remote Access.  You will
  88.    need to know the path to your Files.ra and your "Alternative  file  list
  89.    path  for  read-only  media"  path  before   you   run   this   program.

  91.    6. PC_Cream.exe   This is a  simple  program  to  assist  the  setup  of
  92.    PCboard BBS.  PC_Cream will copy the  Files.bbs  file  listings  to  the
  93.    directory  of your  choice on your hard drive * AND * increment the file
  94.    listing names, ie. Dir1, Dir2, Dir3 etc.   A directory listing of the 24
  95.    file area descriptions is included (under the name DIR) in this directory.

  98.                              An Extra Feature!

  100.    The files on this cd include the description inside the ARJ comment. You
  101.    can simply run   ARJ L <filename>   to read the description of any file.

  104.                         A note from the distributor:
  105.  
  106.    All risk involved with using the programs on this cd are assumed by  you
  107.    alone. Some programs on this cd, especially those  that  manipulate  the
  108.    data on your hard drive, (ie. optimizers and low level disk  management)
  109.    can potentially cause loss of data.  Be careful!  Reading the  docs  and
  110.    taking serious the warnings is the only reasonable thing to do.

  113.    All efforts have been made to insure that this cd is  100%  virus  free.
  114.    Several weeks were invested to insure that  no  commercial  software  is
  115.    present either.  If you detect a virus or a program that is not released
  116.    under the shareware concept, please report your finding  to Terry Blount

  120.    There are a total of  5,019  files totaling  619,345,467  bytes.  After
  121.    converting the files on this cd to the  ARJ  compression  format,  disk
  122.    space was reduced by 60 megs.

  128.    use ARJ to compress the programs for this disk.  I would also  like  to
  129.    mention that ARJ has an option to do a string search on the contents of
  130.    an archive.  As far as I know, ARJ is the only compression utility that
  131.    has this time saving feature.
